Laughing with Grandpa Dave

Grandpa Dave is good at making me laugh. Here's a little glimpse of how much fun I have watching him be silly.

More Relatives

I also just got to meet Uncle Vincent, Aunty Stacy, and Uncle Reubens. They're my daddy's cousins who are from all over (Uncle V is from Singapore and getting his PhD at the University of Toronto; Aunty Stacy and Uncle Reubens are from Vancouver, BC.)

Uncle Vincent obviously likes babies because he got me to smile right away!

Worth Documenting

It's not every day that a baby assembles every single person from her immediate extended family at one time. I got to be with all four of my grandparents, all of my aunts and uncles, and my cousins. My family came from three different countries and three U.S. states for this holiday. It was great to meet you all.

Back row, left to right: Aunty Rachel and Uncle Andrew (Colorado Springs, CO), Great Grandma Dori (Chewelah, WA), Uncle Daniel and Aunty Liz (Seattle, WA), Aunty Flavia and Uncle Jon (San Diego, CA).

Middle row, left to right: Grandma Lynne and Grandpa Dave (we are at their house in Bellingham, WA), Yeh Yeh and Grandma Irene (Singapore), and Aunty Bing Yin (Singapore).

Front row, left to right: My parents, Cousin Cheryl (Singapore) holding me, Aunty Ming (Sydney, Austrailia), Cousin Christopher and Uncle David (Singapore).

Holidays...

This has been a busy month for me!

I got a cool Santa outfit from my parents' crazy friends (they say they would never buy something so silly but they're glad somebody else did).

I went on my first plane ride and even got a certificate signed by all the flight attendants. These pics show my emergency diaper/clothes change on mama's lap.

I saw Seattle for the first time, first from my 23rd floor hotel room and then by exploring Pike's Place Market. It was cool! My parents say they want to move to somewhere around here.

I met my Kwee grandparents.

I met Aunty Ming.

I met Uncle Andrew, Uncle Jon, Aunty Flavia, Aunty Liz, and got to see Uncle Daniel and Aunty Rachel again. Whew, that's a lot of people! I think they all need to visit me so that I can get to know them better (hint, hint).

I met Aunty Flavia, too.

I met Uncle David, Aunty Bing Yin, and cousins Chris and Cheryl. Chris and Cheryl are a lot older than me, but I can tell they are cool cousins and I wish we lived closer, a lot closer.

Ellise and I dressed up together (see how neither of us look much like our mamas here?! sometimes people don't believe they belong to us, but we know they do!)

I got to open a Christmas stocking for the first time!
Yeh Yeh and Grandpa Dave both helped me.

Grandma Irene gave me my first piano lesson and Grandma Lynne cheered me on. She also snuggled with me a lot (aren't I lucky?!).

Having Fun

Daddy and Uncle Daniel making fun of my funny faces. If you want my opinion, I think the two of them look way funnier than me.

Drinking from the fountain of positive thinking

While mom, dad, and talya went off with uncle dan to the Shedd Aquarium and Chinatown for a whole day of fun, I was locked up in the bathroom. Mom said I couldn't come till I stop doing my business on the carpet (which I have, I promise, for a WHOLE WEEK, ever since they followed the advice of the cat consultant). My therapist said I have no choice but to make the best of the situation, which I did...

Dad's article

Part of dad's job is to write and think about sex all the time. This is his most recent article published in Sex Addiction & Compulsivity: Journal of Treatment and Prevention. Some day I will be embarassed by all of this.

Uncle Daniel pays a visit

Happy thanksgiving! Per daddy's request, we had a Taiwanese lunch today of stewed pork belly rice and dan dan noodle. Later we'll go traditional and have the stuffed turkey. Uncle Daniel joined us from Seattle for the long holiday. Here's me getting to know him (silly me, I thought he was Jesus at first). Sister Xana is still behaving.

Hope for Xana Katt

Since the dismal post about the possibility of having to give up Xana, things at home have turned in a more positive direction. Per the advice of a PetSmart cat consultant, we decided to do some things differently that have certainly helped. In addition to cleaning and de-odorizing the affected areas, we moved Xana's food to the particular corner that she is fond of soiling. Cats don't soil where they eat/sleep. We removed the cover of her litter box so that odors don't accumulate, bought a supplemental litter box, invested in "cat-retraining" litter, and installed 2 diffusers that diffuse a synthetic pheromone around our apartment (pheromones are what cats release when they rub their faces against you--its a comforting chemical only they can detect). So far, so good! Xana seems back to fairly normal but it remains to be seen whether this change will be sustained or whether she'll re-mark her territories in another grand feline diva meltdown.

On a totally different, random note, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANELLE!! There couldn't be a nicer birthday present than this....

Tia Karla sings to me

Aunty Karla watched me while my parents worked two Saturdays in a row and I learned new songs when she sang to me. She came over today to visit and I was fussy, but when she sang this song to me,I remembered it and felt better. I love music!

Sad news about bad kitty

It is with sadness that we report that we are likely to give Xana away. She has been a very good cat, very affectionate, and did not show any aggression to Talya. However, she's developed a little problem that is not unheard of when a new baby arrives: She has been urinating outside her litter box, in a corner of the dining room and our bedroom, and today she started to defecate in Talya's room after she was disciplined. The urination problem has been going on several weeks and has only escalated. We are trying some behavioral things, such as cleaning and de-odorizing the spots (to dissuade her further marking her territory), and putting her in her cage/carrier (which she hates) after she soils the carpet. We would both love to keep her as she is a real sweet thing and good with kids, but this issue is not one we can tolerate for much longer. We are hoping that one of our pet-loving friends will adopt her (any takers?). It is not an option to euthanize her.

Two Months Old

I am two months old today. When I went to the doctor a few days ago, I found out that I weighed almost eleven pounds and grew 2 1/2 inches just these past four weeks. It's probably because I have such a great appetite. Daddy says I take after him because I like my 24-hour all-you-can-eat buffet so much. I'm finally getting better at drinking out of bottles, too. They're not my first choice, but to keep up my all day buffet habits, I've got to take them when my mama goes to work. Here are some pictures from my birth-day to remember how tiny and beautiful I was and to see how much I've changed.

My Uncle Jonathan and Aunty Flavia requested more video clips of me, so this one is for them. You will see my big yawn and smile and my new toy, the O-Ball. It's really fun to grab onto because there are lots of places for my little fingers. I also really like to look at the light show in my favorite seat, the cradle swing. Actually, I should make clear my preference to be held at least 23 hours per day, but when I have to be set down, this is usually my first choice.

I'm a Fall Baby

Walking with Grandpa and napping in the crunchy Fall leaves...I think my life is good.

My room and my friend pooh

Here's a glimpse of my room, which I like only for entertainment and obligatory diaper changes; sleeping is much better near other warm bodies. You'll also hear my nerdy ga-ga parents coaxing me to grin, so I humored them with my pretty smile.

The theme of my room is Winnie The Pooh. This all started because I was born in the year of the pig, and my mama thinks that if we have to get in to that, Piglet is one of the cuter piggies around. In my family, there are lots of other pigs. Most of them I don't know yet, but they have to be cool. They include my cousin Jacob who's my age, my cousin Christopher who's already a big kid, my daddy and aunty Karina, Aunty Ah Kee, and Great Great Uncle Cheong.

Daddy says I look like a Nanyang schoolgirl because of my white dress (Singaporeans know Nanyang as a Chinese girls' school). I say I make any dress look good!

Favorite Moments

I've been out in the world for almost two months now. Here are poses of a few of my favorite moments so far... cruising the park in my cuddly baby sling (4 days old), bathtime (3 weeks old), waking up with daddy (4 weeks old), and showing off my cool pumpkin hat (5 weeks old).

Talya says hi to her Singapore grandparents

She speaks:)

My name is Xana Katt

My name is Xana Katt (full name: Xana Fafa La Famosa Katt Kwee) and I want to thank all my fans for viewing my blog. My mommy and daddy say it's silly. I'd like to show you pictures of all of my favorite things. They are all of me.
